Garden Talk: Starting a Vegetable Garden & Seed Swap

This month, we will discuss what you need to know to start growing your own vegetables at home. We will also have a seed swap, so bring any extra seeds you have and swap them for something new.

Green Thumb Gardening Series offers Hampton Roads residents classes and workshops in partnership with VCE Master Gardeners. The series consist of five sessions which meet every Wednesday from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. The cost is $20 for all five sessions. Topics include (order subject to change):

  • Houseplant Basics: How to Successfully Bring Your Garden Indoors
  • Introduction to Roses
  • Pruning for the Home Gardener
  • Conservation Landscaping

We will meet in-person as COVID conditions allow, following appropriate social distancing guidelines. VCE requires participants to wear masks for all indoor events, regardless of vaccination status. In the event COVID conditions dictate, we will present the series in a virtual format.

Workshop: Build a Bluebird House

You might think February is for the birds–and you are right–bluebirds! Bluebirds start to search for nesting locations this month. It’s time to put up your bluebird houses and invite them to your garden. In this workshop, you can build a bluebird house to take home.

Target ages: Adults and Children 5 years old and up. Must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

Cost: $20 [price increase due to current cost of lumber]
