About Us

We are dedicated volunteers guided by VCE, providing unbiased, research-based horticulture education to help the community with gardening, water quality, and tree health.

Who Are the Portsmouth Master Gardeners?

The Portsmouth Master Gardeners are a dedicated group of volunteers trained through the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), Virginia Tech, and Virginia State University. Our mission is to provide the community with science-backed gardening knowledge, helping residents grow healthy plants, maintain landscapes, and adopt eco-friendly practices.

Our Mission

We strive to educate Portsmouth residents about safe, effective, and sustainable gardening techniques. Through community outreach and educational initiatives, we empower individuals to make informed decisions about horticulture, environmental conservation, and natural resource management.

What is a Master Gardener?

Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who share their knowledge through public workshops, garden clinics, and outreach programs. To become a Master Gardener, volunteers complete an intensive training program and dedicate hours of service to the community.
